  1. Hello all you hackers out there. This is Maxwell your friendly neighborhood
  2. editor writer. If you have any requests please let me know about them I love
  3. writing these things. Also if you have any problems with my programs please
  4. let me know as well. About the only people that use these programs until now
  5. was a handful of my friends. I think it is great that people from all over the
  6. country will be downloading these programs. Anyway the reason that i am writing
  7. this little letter is because the latest program that i would like to upload
  8. is not as user friendly as i would like it to be. It is also a little flaky.
  9. Anyway lets get to it. I have written a couple of programs that assist you
  10. in doing well in the game rogue.

  12. 1. ROGUEFIX.TTP - this program will boost your mace to +255 +255 and give you
  13.                   9 food, but there are a couple things you have to do first.
  14.                   The first thing to do is start the game as normal. Then as
  15.                   soon as the game starts go over to your pack and single
  16.                   click your mace. A box will open and allow you to type a
  17.                   desc. of your mace. Type "mace" in lower case just as i
  18.                   have here and hit return. Then go over to your food and
  19.                   single click it as well. This time type in "food" in lower
  20.                   case and hit return. Thats it. Now save the game. After
  21.                   your back to desktop insert the disk with this program and
  22.                   double click this program. When the box opens up,cause this
  23.                   is a ttp file, type in the name of your save game. Make
  24.                   sure you include the device type and the .sav at the end.
  25.                   You should type something like this,"a:maxwell.sav".
  26.                   The program will load and ask you to insert the disk
  27.                   with the save game. Insert the disk in the proper drive
  28.                   and hit a key. The program will tell you what its doing.
  29.                   If the program tells you it cannot find your food or mace
  30.                   you may have to repeat the above steps. This program is
  31.                   very flaky and sometimes does not work, but if it does you
  32.                   are going to have one fun game. Oh yea, here are a few hints
  33.                   to increase the programs chances of working. After you make
  34.                   the mod to your save game. Go back to rogue and load
  35.                   the save game as normal. BEFORE you do anything go over
  36.                   to your pack and just click it open. I have had problems
  37.                   when i dont do this. And if it does not work you will know
  38.                   it. You will get about 3 bombs, the screen will turn blue
  39.                   and it will shoot you back to desktop. If this happens
  40.                   dont worry just try again. Also if you are going to
  41.                   try this on a game in progress i suggest that you make
  42.                   a backup copy of the same game before you run this program.
  43.                   Well please dont get mad at me if this thing does not work
  44.                   right, is has nine times out of ten for me, so i think you
  45.                   should not have any problems.

  47. 2. REDIT3.TTP - Wow, I did not realize that there was that much to say on
  48.                 the program previous to this one. Hopefully i can get away
  49.                 with fewer words in explaining this one. This program is
  50.                 not as bad as the one above. But there are a few things that
  51.                 you have to be careful of. This program allows you to edit
  52.                 your existing inventory. But before you run out and jump
  53.                 for joy you have to be very carful not to blow your inventory.
  54.                 Hmmmm...i dont even know where to start...ok insert the
  55.                 disk with this program on it and double click the file.
  56.                 When the box opens this time you just type in your characters
  57.                 name. The program will add the A: and the .sav.
  58.                 For example in this case i would just type "maxwell"
  59.                 instead of "a:maxwell.sav". When the
  60.                 program loads insert the disk with the save game on it and
  61.                 hit a key. A menu will appear with the various items that you
  62.                 can edit. Ok the rest it straight forward just follow the menu.
  63.                 Ok now for the things to watch out for. The program will show
  64.                 you what you accually have in your inventory. If you have a lot
  65.                 of things in your inventory that you have not identified you
  66.                 might have a hard time of it. The program will not list the
  67.                 potions as a blue one or a red one or whatever. It will list
  68.                 them as a potion of healing or whatever. So if you have not
  69.                 identified any of your potions you will know that you have
  70.                 potion of healing but you will not know which one it is.
  71.                 Ok, next thing, the program will allow you to change things
  72.                 that are already in your inventory not add things to it.
  73.                 For example if you have a ring of monster aggrevation
  74.                 you can turn it into a ring of regeneration. and so on.
  75.                 Next on the watch out list and probably the most important
  76.                 thing. When changing an item the program will also ask you
  77.                 how many of that item you want. DO NOT get carried away
  78.                 and type in something like 255. You inventory will probably
  79.                 explode. The best thing to do is just type in the number
  80.                 of the item you changed. For example if the program
  81.                 tells you that you have 2 potions of poison and you change
  82.                 it to a potion of healing, when the computer asks you how many
  83.                 you want you should type in 2. Now to explain the bug that
  84.                 i cannot get rid of no matter how hard i try. When the computer
  85.                 lists the items in your inventory you may notice some items
  86.                 that you dont have. Now in the case of the wands, rings, and
  87.                 scrolls you may not have it. But that scroll or whatever
  88.                 is somewhere on that level. For example if the program tells
  89.                 you that you have a ring of searching and you sit back and
  90.                 scratch your head and say "I don't have a ring of searching."
  91.                 Your right you dont BUT that ring is there somewhere on that
  92.                 level. Same goes with the scrolls and wands. The potions
  93.                 are a different story for some reason the stupid thing lists
  94.                 stuff like 24 potions of poison. and you know you dont have
  95.                 that many and there is no way there are that many in one pile.
  96.                 So be very very very very careful when editing potions. If you
  97.                 know there is no way that there can be that many leave it
  98.                 alone. The problem shows up more and more the farther you get
  99.                 in the game. The first couple of times you run the program
  100.                 it probably will not show up. As i said with the program above
  101.                 you should BACKUP your save game BEFORE you run this program.
  102.                 Also as i said above as soon as you reload the save game that
  103.                 you have modified go over to your pack and make that window
  104.                 the active window. Well that is all i can think of. i hope
  105.                 i have covered everything. These programs where not done with
  106.                 the average user in mind so please forgive me i am working
  107.                 on makeing my programs more user friendly. Oh yea, and when
  108.                 you edit the wands the program will raise every wand you change
  109.                 to 99 charges.
